Linda Warrick has had a strong affinity to clay ever since, as a child, she first worked with it. She now works solely as a ceramic artist. For the past 17 years, she has developed her work in porcelain, hand building semi-abstract birds. Each piece is burnished before firing, then smoked in sawdust. This results in the visual uniqueness of each piece along with an irresistible tactile appeal.
Important inspiration is drawn from constant observation of form, a `way of seeing` both the large and the minute, combined with watching birds themselves, preferably at close range. Recent visits to the gannet colony on Bass Rock, Scotland and the Farne Islands, off the Northumberland coast, have provided a wealth of new material. Linda graduated from Kingston upon Hull College of Education in 1971 and has taught ceramics to adults and children of all ages. She also had the opportunity of working with artist-potter Don Morgan in the late 80s/early 90s - an invaluable experience. Linda's ceramic birds are characterized by their elegance and purity of form, and are held in private collections in Europe, North America and elsewhere.
